Ex-sarpanch held for indecent social media post on deputy CM Parida | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Puri police on Wednesday arrested a former sarpanch for allegedly making indecent remarks about deputy chief minister Pravati Parida on a social media platform. The accused was identified as Manoj Nayak (47), a resident of Oupada area in Balasore district.
The arrest took place following a complaint filed by BJP leader Jayant Dash at the cyber crime police station in Puri on Mar 7. The investigation revealed that Nayak had digitally altered a photograph of the deputy chief minister and shared it on a social media site with offensive captions. The modified content subsequently spread across various social media sites.
“Nayak, a former sarpanch who is now a labour contractor, was traced to East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, where he had fled to avoid arrest. A police team from Puri arrested him and brought him back to Puri on transit remand after his court appearance in Jharkhand,” a senior police officer said.
According to the police, Nayak’s actions were purely mischievous in nature and aimed at tarnishing Parida’s reputation. The police authorities clarified that there was no evidence of any personal or political animosity between Nayak and the deputy chief minister. “Nayak is no longer active in politics,” the police officer said.
Following the rejection of his bail application, Nayak was sent to judicial custody. The police decided to initiate communication with social media platforms requesting the removal of the offensive content. “We also warn social media users to refrain from sharing objectionable content,” the police officer added.
