‘There is no consensus on delimitation within INDIA bloc’

Chennai: BJP state president K Annamalai on Wednesday said there is no consensus on delimitation within the INDIA bloc and that leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi still favoured delimitation based on population.
Annamalai told reporters, “What is the need for DMK to hold an all-party meeting when there is no consensus on delimitation within the INDIA bloc? Rahul Gandhi still insists that delimitation should be done based on population. If Stalin spoke to Rahul Gandhi over the phone before the commencement of the all-party meeting, there would not be any need to convene the meeting.”
Annamalai said TN BJP will send a letter to all 45 parties that were invited to the all-party meeting and speak to them about delimitation.
“We will also send our BJP functionaries to every party and explain to them about the delimitation exercise. Our Union home minister Amit Shah clarified that delimitation will be carried out based on a pro rata basis, which is nothing but proportional representation. This implies that each state will continue to have the same percentage of seats in the Lok Sabha,” Annamalai said.
Earlier, Annamalai launched a signature campaign called ‘Samakalvi’ — equal education to all. Former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan signed up for the campaign first, followed by Annamalai with the words ‘Tamil Vazhga, Bharatham Valarga’. The campaign with the slogan “equal education is our right” will be taken to every district from Thursday by BJP district-level functionaries.
Annamalai said the objective of the signature campaign is to obtain one crore signatures by the end of May and to submit them to President Droupadi Murmu.
