HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old Indian student, Bhavana Chandrashekar, pursuing her doctoral studies in computer and information technology at Purdue University in Indiana, US, ended her life. She was found dead in her apartment room on South Chancey Avenue at 7.40 pm on February 24. The reasons for her taking the extreme step are not yet known.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely death of Bhavana Chandrashekar, a postgraduate student at Purdue University. The consulate is in touch with Bhavana’s relatives and the university authority to provide all support. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and friends of the departed during this difficult time,” the Consulate General of India (CGI) Chicago said on Friday in a post on ‘X’.
The student community at the university has expressed shock at the death of Bhavana. The Purdue Graduate Student Government President, Somosmita Mitra, wrote an email to students on Tuesday, saying: “While we do not yet have full details surrounding this tragedy, what remains undeniable is that we have lost one of our own. Bhavana was a part of our community, and her absence will be deeply felt,” Somosmita Mitra said.
West Lafayette police recorded that a ‘Purdue graduate student died by suicide’ on Monday. No details of the investigation were given out.
