1 hurt as drunk driver rams car into scooty – The Times of India

Navi Mumbai: A 43-year-old caterer from Thane, who was driving his car allegedly in a drunken state along the Thane-Belapur road, rammed the vehicle into a scooty, injuring the rider near Rabale around 1.30 am on Wednesday. As the accused car driver sped away, the police jeep on night patrolling chased the car and waylaid him. During the chase, the car hit the police jeep as well.
The accused, identified as Sukesh Shetty, was booked under the Motor Vehicle Act for drunk driving along with Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita sections for rash and negligent driving, causing injuries to the scooty rider, identified as Vaibhav Hande (36), a resident of Mulund. Hande runs private tuition coaching classes. Hande sustained injuries to both his legs. The accused was not arrested but served a notice, directing him to cooperate in the police investigation and attend court proceedings against him when summoned, investigating officer PSI Sachin Ghodake of Rabale MIDC police station said.
According to police, the car driver Shetty was visibly drunk, and hence he was detained and taken to the police station. His medical examination at the NMMC hospital confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol while driving his car, police said.
