‘You care for people, we’ll care for you’: MK Stalin to 2,642 newly appointed doctors in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News – The Times of India

CHENNAI: “You take care of people’s welfare, we will take care of yours,” chief minister M K Stalin told 2,642 newly appointed doctors who will be posted as assistant surgeons in primary health centres across the state.
“Tamil Nadu serves as a medical hub for the country. Under the Dravidian model, former chief minister M. Karunanidhi established infrastructure, including medical colleges in every district, govt hospitals in cities, taluk hospitals in larger towns, and primary health centres in villages. He also introduced the 108 ambulance service and a health insurance scheme,” Stalin stated while handing over appointment orders to new recruits.
“These orders are being distributed after overcoming legal hurdles,” he remarked, referring to a case filed by some candidates against the recruitment process, which was dismissed by the Madras High Court.
The state has introduced several health schemes, including 1,000 pharmacies to provide medicines at subsidised cost. The state needs doctors from villages and small towns to treat people in these areas, he said.
Earlier, Health Minister Ma Subramanian said the state has appointed more than 26,000 staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff through the medical recruitment board, state public service commission, and district health societies in the last four years.
“All fresh candidates are posted to districts only after counselling. The candidates get to opt for places from the list of options. Transfer and promotion counselling also happen in a transparent manner,” he said.
The state has created more than 4,600 new doctors’ posts and has conducted transfer counselling for more than 40,000 posts in the last four years.
