Indians rescued from Myanmar await help to move into Thailand

Hyderabad: While some of the rescued Indians from cybercrime centres in the KK Park area of Myawaddy in Myanmar have already been moved to Mae Sot in Thailand, many others remain stuck along the Myanmar border, waiting for the authorities to finalise their transfer.
On Monday, officials confirmed that the number of rescued Indians has grown to around 200 from 70 the previous day. The rest of the 1,400 persons rescued are primarily Chinese nationals.
The rescued Indians hail from states across India including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Haryana.
Many of the Indians remain just a few hundred metres away from Myanmar’s cybercrime centre operating out of KK Park, waiting to get across Moei river to enter Thailand. Officials are working to arrange safe passage in coordination with the Indian embassy and the Myanmar govt. The Border Guard Force (BGF) are also assisting with the operation.
Vasava Dhruv from Vadodara in Gujarat told TOI over the phone: “We were rescued from KK Park and moved to a place less than 500 metres away from where we were held. But we are still not across the Moei River to reach Mae Sot in Thailand. BGF officers told us it would take around a week to 10 days before we move forward to Thailand from where we will head back to India.”
