Bhubaneswar: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, took a major stride in advanced healthcare by inaugurating a specialised liver transplantation clinic, marking a significant development in liver care services for the region.
The facility was officially inaugurated on Saturday by AIIMS Bhubaneswar president Dr Shailesh Kumar, accompanied by executive director Dr Ashutosh Biswas and medical superintendent Dr Dillip Kumar Parida.
“This initiative addresses a critical healthcare need and will serve as a beacon of hope for patients suffering from end-stage liver disease,” said Biswas during the inauguration ceremony on the institute premises.
The clinic operates every Tuesday from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Room No. 222 in the gastro OPD complex, offering comprehensive services including patient evaluation, transplant listing, and pre-operative care.
The institute, in an official statement, mentioned that a multidisciplinary team comprising experts from surgical gastroenterology, gastroenterology, paediatric surgery, and paediatrics departments will manage the facility.
Key features of the clinic include a dedicated liver transplant coordinator and nutritionist, comprehensive assessment and treatment services, pre-operative optimisation for donors and recipients, and specialised transplant counselling.
The initiative is expected to benefit patients from Odisha and neighbouring states, establishing AIIMS Bhubaneswar as a regional centre for advanced liver care. The inauguration was attended by department heads and senior faculty members.
