Hyderabad: Setting the tone for the Feb 27 MLC election (three seats) and upcoming polls to 12,800 gram panchayats, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday challenged the BRS and BJP to a debate on promises implemented by their govts in the state and Centre respectively over a decade in power against Congress govt’s one year in Telangana.
He threw the challenge at BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, while asking PM Narendra Modi to depute Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay for the BJP.
“I will come for the debate at a time and place of your choice. If I lose, I will rub my nose to the ground,” Revanth said at a public meeting after the ground breaking ceremony for Indiramma houses and laying foundation stones for projects worth Rs 1,000 crore in Narayanpet assembly constituency of combined Mahabubnagar district.
“KCR said the Congress govt has done nothing in Telangana in the last 12 months. If he is so confident, let him come along with either KT Rama Rao or T Harish Rao for the debate,” Revanth said.
Referring to PM’s Modi’s promises before 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the CM asked: “Did anyone get Rs 15 lakh into their bank accounts as Modi promised to deposit after bringing back black money stashed in Swiss banks? On the contrary, Modi’s friends such as Nirav Modi fled the country after defaulting on huge bank loans. Modi promised two crore jobs every year, double farmers’ income and construct house for every poor family. BJP leaders should explain to the people of Telangana whether these promises have been kept.”
The CM also urged the people to realise that the previous BRS govt had taken them for a ride with 2BHK house promise. He said unlike the BRS promises, over 25 lakh Indiramma houses were constructed during the Congress govt in Telangana region of undivided AP.
“The Congress will field candidates in local body elections only in villages where Indiramma houses were built. Will the BRS accept the challenge and contest only from areas where it built and allotted 2BHK houses?” he asked.
Cautioning people from the district against trusting BRS, the CM alleged that though they elected KCR as their MP in 2009, he allowed AP to divert more than its share of Krishna water.
The previous BRS govt did not complete any of the irrigation projects in the district as KCR focussed on Kaleshwaram for ‘commissions’. But the project collapsed and Mahabubnagar district was turned into a desert by KCR, he alleged.
“If KCR had completed irrigation projects on Krishna in Mahabubnagar district, today Telangana would not have had to wage a battle with AP for its rightful share,” he said.
Listing out promises implemented by Congress govt such as 55,000 jobs, gas cylinder at Rs 500 and free bus travel for women among others, he called upon the cadre to give a befitting reply to BRS and BJP in the upcoming polls. He reminded them that the BRS was defeated in assembly polls, lost deposits in the Lok Sabha elections and did not get candidates to field in the Feb 27 MLC polls.
Box 1:
Mahabubnagar’s son is the CM, use this opportunity: CM at rally
“It’s a once-in-a-decade opportunity that a son of Mahabubnagar district has become the CM. Utilise this opportunity to strengthen my hands. I will double the compensation for land you surrender for industries and other projects to even Rs 20 lakh per acre, as these projects will create jobs for your children. The BRS is unable to digest the development in Mahabubnagar and even an attempt was made to kill a collector in Lagacherla. Don’t fall into the trap of BRS and BJP, and don’t allow them to enter the borders of the district,” the CM said.
Box 2:
KCR should first fix his home before questioning others: Revanth
The CM ridiculed KCR’s recent statement that the BRS will hit back strongly as people are not happy with the Congress govt’s 12-month rule.
“KCR should first set his home right. He should teach his son KTR a lesson for allegedly hosting drug parties and daughter K Kavitha for allegedly being involved in the Delhi liquor scam so that they mend their ways,” he said.
