TRICHY: Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister and Janasena Party president Pawan Kalyan visited prominent temples in and around Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
“For about 4.5 years, I had been planning this spiritual journey to visit several temples including Lord Murugan’s temples and resting place of (sage) Agasthiyar for invoking blessings. Though I had been trying this trip for a long time, God gave me his permission only now,” Pawan told reporters near Kumbeswarar temple.
Reacting to a question on whether the spiritual journey was part of a Sanatana Dharma yatra, Pawan Kalyan said, “If I had planned for a dharma yatra, I would have definitely announced it earlier. This is a personal temple visit,” Pawan added.
Pawan Kalyan refused to respond to questions on the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Andhra Pradesh and his comments on actor Vijay’s political foray. He stated that he was not supposed to make political comments in temples and during spiritual trips.
The actor-turned-politician arrived at Thanjavur Air Force Station on a private jet and travelled by road to Swamimalai Murugan Temple, one of the six abodes of Murugan temples.
Sources said that AP deputy CM meditated before Mangalambigai Amman shrine at Adi Kumbeswarar temple for around 30 minutes. Temple authorities gave him a Purnakumba reception.
He fed temple elephant, Mangalam, with bananas. Police protection was provided to the temples as his fans gathered to meet him.
