Mumbai/Pune: In a setback for the Shiv Sena (UBT), its former MLA from Ratnagiri Rajan Salvi resigned as its deputy leader and is expected to join the Shiv Sena in Thane on Thursday.
Amid reports that Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs will also move over to the Shiv Sena, party MLA Aaditya Thackeray will meet them in Delhi on Thursday.
Last month, Salvi had met Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray amid reports of his quitting to join the BJP or the Shiv Sena led by Dy CM Eknath Shinde.
Salvi blamed senior party functionaries for his assembly election defeat from Rajapur against Sena’s Kiran Samant.
Shiv Sena minister Uday Samant claimed four MLAs, three MPs and 10 former MLAs of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and five MLAs from the Congress will soon join Shinde’s party. He said the first phase of the operation will take place in Ratnagiri.
In another jolt to the MVA, three former corporators from Pune, including Congress spokesperson Hemlata Patil, joined the Shiv Sena.
In Delhi, Aaditya is expected to meet the Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs and understand the party’s functioning in Parliament.
Last week, eight Sena (UBT) MPs held a press conference in New Delhi. “We nine MPs are 100% not going anywhere,” Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said.
