Mumbai: State cabinet minister and BJP Mumbai president Ashish Shelar has criticised Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, calling him a hypocrite. In a post on social media, Shelar questioned Thackeray’s silence regarding issues faced by Ganesh idols made of PoP. “…your father, when he was CM, tried to shut down the public Ganesh festival committees, which have a tradition of over 100 years. You disrupted the tradition of Lalbaugcha Raja. Whether it was the Ganesh festival or the Dahi Handi festival, whenever they faced difficulties, you never went to court to support them, and you are not saying you will go even today,” said Shelar. “Those who organise Azaan competitions now find the ‘sound of loudspeakers’ melodious and avoid holding the Ganpati aarti… are now speaking about the Maghi Ganesh festival? What right do you have?… This is a charade, a selfish act, these hypocritical devotees who are performing aarti today…”tnn
