When an Australian couple noticed four snakes “hanging around” in their backyard, they reached out for help, only to unearth, quite literally, 102 reptiles from their suburban property in Sydney.
Upon snake catcher Dylan’s arrival, who was expecting to locate and capture those four adult snakes the couple had complained about, he was taken aback when a baby red-belly unexpectedly “popped out” from the sprawling 10-meter-wide, 50cm-high heap, Yahoo news reported.
“Within 20 minutes, Dylan rang me back and said ‘I’m at over 30 snakes already’,” Cory from reptile relocation Sydney told the news website.
“When Dylan was just catching, catching, catching, the homeowners actually put some boots and long pants on and came out to help,” they said.
After three hours of searching, Dylan and his team managed to collect five adult female red-bellied black snakes, along with 71 baby snakes, all safely packed into bags. “Then when we opened up two of the bags and two females had given birth, bringing the total number up to 102,” Cory said.
“I honestly don’t know if anyone’s caught any more in the one property at one time,” they added.
The couple had complained about the snakes after their dog survived a deadly red-bellied black snake bite during Christmas.
