Govt to invest Rs 99,000cr in Sukinda: Min
Kendrapada: State govt has announced plans to invest around Rs 99,000 crore in Sukinda area of Jajpur district, with the potential to generate around 28,000 jobs, industries minister Sampad Chandra Swain said.
Speaking at the inauguration of Sukinda Shilpa Mahotsav in Kalinganagar on Tuesday evening, the minister outlined several major projects, including a Centre-approved petrochemical project worth Rs 8,700 crore in Jajpur district.
The investment package includes expansion works at the Tata Steel plant in Kalinganagar (Rs 26,000 crore) and development at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) in Duburi (Rs 62,000 crore).
Swain highlighted that 145 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 12.89 lakh crore were signed during the recent two-day Utkarsh Odisha business summit in Bhubaneswar.
Sukinda Valley, home to 97% of India’s chromite ore deposits and one of the world’s largest open cast chromite ore mine, will see strategic development using the District Mineral Fund to benefit local communities, he said.
“To harness its full potential, we must focus on enhancing Jajpur’s infrastructure and positioning it as a national and global industrial hub,” said Swain, emphasising the state’s commitment to fostering partnerships between MSMEs and large industries.
Pradeep Bal Samanta, Sukinda MLA and minister of state for cooperation, handloom and textiles, stressed the strategic importance of Jajpur district, particularly highlighting the Kalinganagar industrial complex’s role in attracting foreign investments and driving economic growth.
