MUMBAI: According to the Act for Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace , the formation of Internal Grievance Redressal Committee is mandatory in all government , semi-government and private offices and establishments. If the committee is not formed, then a fine of up to 50 thousand rupees will be imposed , this information has been given by the District Magistrate of Mumbai City, Sanjay Yadav.
In the office where more than ten employees are working , it will be necessary to form this committee. In this committee, a senior woman of the office should be appointed as the chairperson , along with two staff members who have experience in social work and have knowledge of this law. Apart from this , it will be mandatory to include a member of a non-governmental organization related to women’s issues in the committee.
Also , every office will have to mandatorily demonstrate that an Internal Grievance Committee has been constituted. This notice should be given through a board at the principal place of the office. Apart from this , as per this Act , it will also be necessary to reconstitute the committee every three years.
This information was given by the Sub-District Magistrate (S.P.) and District Magistrate Ganesh Sangle, responsible for the effective implementation of the law.
According to the Act relating to Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace , it is mandatory to constitute this committee in every government/semi-government office , organization , corporation , foundation , institution and branch established by the government or controlled by the government , receiving government funds directly/indirectly .
Apart from this , it is necessary to form this committee at all places of private sector organizations , enterprises , non-governmental organizations , societies , trusts , businesses related to production , distribution and sales , commercial , professional , educational , entertainment , industrial , health services , financial works , hospitals , nursing homes , sports institutes , auditoriums , sports premises etc.
In this regard, District Women and Child Development Officer Shobha Shelar said that this committee should be constituted compulsorily in all government and private offices mentioned in the Act.
