Chennai: A 46-year-old man arrested for aggravated penetrative sexual assault of a three-year-old girl was sentenced to life imprisonment by Chengalpet Pocso court.
The case, originally investigated by Poonamallee all-women police in 2019, was later transferred to Pallavaram all-women police station. The investigating officer filed the chargesheet within a week, but the suspect, Abubacker alias Arivazhagan, was nabbed six months later as he went into hiding. Apart from the life sentence, the convict was sentenced to 10 years for trespassing into the survivor’s house and two years for criminal intimidation. tnn
