Dacoit from Bihar held for Jajpur jewellery shop loot | Bhubaneswar News
Kendrapada: A dacoit from Bihar was arrested in UP on Friday in connection with a robbery that occurred 20 days ago at a jewellery shop in Jajpur district.
The accused, identified as Manjit Chaudhury (23) from Baharapur village under Doriganj police station limits in Bihar’s Saran district, was apprehended from his hideout, police said. Manjit has been charged under sections 310 (2) and 310 (3) of the BNS, along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
On Jan 4, Manjit and his accomplices, posing as customers, entered a jewellery shop in Panikoili. The gang brandished revolvers to intimidate staff and customers, attempting to loot the store. During the chaos, they fatally shot two people, including a customer who tried to intervene.
While two gang members, Subham Sahani (33) of Begusarai and Mandhukanta Singh (24) of Ramapur village in Saran district, were caught on the same day, others managed to escape.
“After the incident, multiple police teams were formed to apprehend all the culprits,” said Sanjay Patnaik, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Jajpur Road. Investigation revealed that two months before the robbery, some of the gang members stayed briefly in Jajpur Road, to plan their crime, he added. “The criminals seemed well aware of the area. We also suspect the role of some locals in the dacoity,” said the SDPO.
