Dense fog partially hits road, rail, air traffic | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: A blanket of dense fog engulfed the capital city and some towns till late Friday morning partially affecting road, rail and air traffic.
Some long-distance trains were running late due to the dense fog, reducing visibility to 50 metres, in the city and Khurda, Angul, Talcher, Dhenkanal, Balasore and Gopalpur, among others.
Similarly, traffic in the city and on national highways passing though the capital and other towns was thin due to the fog. Arrival of flights at the city airport were also affected. There was, however, no official report on the delay of any flight or train.
“It was too difficult to drive on the highway due to the dense fog. I reached my office late,” said Pratik Mohanty, a govt employee commuting daily from Cuttack. Many commuters here echoed him.
IMD warned that such fog condition would continue at isolated places in 19 to 20 districts for the next three days. Night temperature would also rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the period, the forecast said.
On Saturday, fog warning was issued for isolated places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Khurda and Cuttack districts.
In wake of the dense fog warning, office of the special relief commissioner (SRC) sent an alert to district collectors and police to take steps to restrict traffic on the highways.
A senior meteorologist at the regional IMD centre here said that little change in wind pattern supported the development of fog in some districts for the past few days.
On Friday Phulbani recorded the lowest temperature of 10.5C. The city recorded 19.5C, 3.5 degrees above normal.
