Father-son duo held in Rs 30L land fraud case
Berhampur: A 65-year-old man and his son were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs 30 lakh in a land purchase scheme in the city’s Sana Bazaar area.
The accused Balaji Sahu and his son Raghuraj (30) had been evading arrest for several years. The duo was apprehended when they visited Sana Bazaar area on Tuesday evening.
According to the police, the victim had entered into an agreement with the accused in 2019, paying Rs 30 lakh as advance for land purchase. However, the duo neither purchased the land nor returned the money. When confronted, they allegedly threatened the victim and her husband.
“Following a complaint filed at Bada Bazar police station on Dec 4, we launched an investigation and tracked their movements,” said Baba Shankar Saraf, IIC, Bada Bazaar police station. Investigation revealed the duo has multiple cases pending against them across different police stations.
