Finally, Odisha embraces Ayushman Bharat | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: State govt on Monday signed an MoU with the Centre for implementing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme in Odisha.
With this, Odisha became the 34th state/Union Territory to implement the central scheme, which will provide health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per annum, with an additional Rs 5 lakh for women.
AB-PMJAY will be implemented in convergence with the state’s Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (G-JAY). As a result, beneficiaries will receive an integrated card of AB-PMJAY and G-JAY to avail treatment in around 30,000 govt and private empanelled hospitals in the country. “Around 1.03 crore families from the state will come under the converged scheme, with 67.8 lakh families supported by the Centre,” read a statement from the health and family welfare ministry.
Union health minister J P Nadda, who presided over the MoU signing ceremony, said, “Today is a historic day for Odisha.”
He said the scheme covers around 45% of the country’s population. Since the inception of AB-PMJAY, Nadda stated that 8.19 crore hospital admissions were recorded, with Rs 1.13 lakh crore spent on providing healthcare to marginalised sections. “Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, launched in Oct last year, will benefit around 6 crore people aged 70 years and above,” he added.
The scheme will cover around 3.5 crore out of the 4.5-crore population of Odisha.
Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who had promised to implement AB-PMJAY in Odisha if BJP formed the govt, said, “The scheme will transform the health status of 86% of Odisha’s population. People from our state, who were previously receiving treatment in around 900 empanelled hospitals, will now have access to cashless and quality treatment in over 29,000 govt and private empanelled hospitals.”
Besides, around 23.13 lakh people aged 70 years and above from 17.32 lakh families will also receive the health insurance/assurance facility under the scheme. A National Health Authority (NHA) team visited the state to prepare for implementation of AB-PMJAY. Training and capacity building workshops were also conducted before the MoU signing, official sources said.
Majhi further said a Ayushman Arogya Mandir will be set up in each gram panchayat. A health worker, ANM, and a yoga teacher will be appointed for each facility. It will bring a revolutionary change in the health sector in Odisha, he added.
State health minister Mukesh Mahaling said the MoU will pave the way for people of Odisha and migrant workers to avail affordable and quality healthcare services across the country.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, deputy CM, K V Singh Deo, and state and central officials were present at the ceremony.
