BU students shine at zonal youth fest

Berhampur: Students from Berhampur University (BU) showcased their talent at the 38th All India University (AIU) East Zone Youth Festival, organised by Sister Nivedita University in Kolkata from Jan 8 to 12, and brought home seven prizes, including the first prize in the tribal folk dance category.
A total of 36 students, accompanied by two officials, represented BU in 18 different events at the festival. A 15-member team from Baliguda College, a BU-affiliated institute, performed Dakul, a vibrant tribal dance. The team, consisting of five male and five female dancers dressed in traditional tribal attire and supported by five musicians, received high praise from the audience.
“The tribal folk dance earned two prizes. BU students also won prizes in the procession, debate competition, and mime dance categories,” said Mihir Tripathy, manager of the team of BU students at the festival.
Additionally, Anisha Devi, a postgraduate student from the Botany department, secured second place in the Mehendi competition with a design inspired by Puri’s famous Rath Yatra. Geetanjali Dash, vice chancellor of Berhampur University, congratulated the students for their stellar performance at the event.
All in all, the festival saw participation from around 700 students representing 18 universities from the eastern zone. BU students who won prizes at the zonal festival will now be able to participate in the upcoming National Youth Festival, scheduled for Mar in New Delhi, in two events—tribal folk dance and Mehendi design.
