Sambalpur: Two men from Brahmapura village in Sambalpur district sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a bear while collecting firewood in Shankhapatiya reserve forest on Saturday. The victims have been identified as Rohit Sabar (55) and Har Sabar (52).
Rohit suffered severe injuries when the bear mauled his left leg and right arm, causing deep wounds. Villagers immediately carried him home and later shifted him to Charamal hospital. He was later referred to Vimsar, Burla for further treatment. Har Sabar sustained minor injuries and received primary treatment at Charamal.
Charamal range officer Darshana Bhoi said, “The victims will get compensation as per govt rules, after documents are submitted. We are organising meetings in every village to raise awareness about wild animal attacks.”
