Mumbai: CM Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday reconstituted the search committee for appointment of the chief information commissioner and information commissioners. Justice Sunil Shukre, a former judge of the Bombay HC, will be chairman of the committee, while the chief secretary and additional chief secretary (general administration) will be its members.
According to provisions of the RTI Act, a three-member committee headed by the CM already exists for recommending to the governor the appointment of the CIC and state information commissioners. However, the SC on Dec 13, 2018 directed the constitution of a search committee to prepare a shortlist of candidates applying for these posts at the time of each selection.
Accordingly, a search committee headed by Justice Shukre has been set up to recommend the name of the CIC and other information commissioners.
