Odisha pavilion to showcase state’s rich heritage, achievements at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
Bhubaneswar: The state govt finalised plans to establish an Odisha-themed pavilion at Janata Maidan during the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention. The exhibition space aims to present the state’s cultural heritage, natural splendour, industrial development, and distinctive customs to domestic and international delegates, including NRI attendees.
The Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department is completing the conceptual framework. The department will commission an agency to construct the pavilion, which will be named “Glorious Odisha: From Ancient to Modern.”
Spanning 400 square metres, the pavilion space will serve as a cultural centre. Officials stated that the pavilion will represent Odisha’s authentic character, featuring comprehensive architectural and interior specifications, including spatial arrangements, ornamental elements, and thematic components.
“We plan to integrate digital and interactive systems to boost visitor participation. The content will showcase Odisha’s artistic heritage, cultural aspects, tourism potential, industrial sector, and accomplishments. The presentation will include audiovisual content, animated sequences, and virtual reality experiences,” a senior official of the Culture Department said.
The construction will use eco-friendly materials while adhering to established safety protocols and quality benchmarks, govt sources said.
“The exhibition space will present a balanced integration of conventional craftsmanship and modern design, establishing an appealing environment for visitors through its considered presentation,” the department official said.
The outer structure will present visual narratives depicting Odisha’s cultural inheritance, including its unique artistry, handloom heritage, architectural achievements, natural beauty, and tribal community contributions.
The display area will feature high-quality visual presentations produced using advanced printing methods and durable components to maintain visual excellence throughout the event.
The development phase includes constructing the entry portal, establishing three-dimensional (3D) exhibits, and implementing detailed graphics throughout the interior and exterior exhibition spaces.
Visitors will particularly notice the entrance area and 3D installations. Large-scale 3D displays will represent Odisha’s emblems, cultural elements, and industrial achievements. These include a detailed replica of Konark Sun Temple with intricate designs and illumination; Chilika Lake ecosystem featuring water elements, avian life, and virtual experiences; and traditional craft displays showcasing Pattachitra, applique work, and tribal artistry.
“The venue will feature models highlighting Odisha’s industrial advancement, displaying various industrial zones from steel to aluminium manufacturing facilities and technology parks,” the govt official said.
