70-yr-old pedestrian hit by motorcycle, dies

Mumbai: A 70-year-old pedestrian lost her life after a motorcyclist knocked her down while she was crossing a road at Dahisar West. Leela Fernandes, the victim, suffered from hypertension and diabetes and was on medication. She used to step out of her Dahisar home to purchase groceries from the neighbourhood.
On Dec 29, Leela left home between 9.15 am and 9.30am to purchase bread from a nearby bakery.Her son and daughter-in-law were home at that time. Around 10am, the family’s domestic help came home running to inform that Leela had fallen on the street after being knocked down by a motorcycle. Leela’s son and daughter-in-law rushed downstairs to the bakery and found her lying on the street. A motorcycle was parked near her. Her son carried Leela into an auto. Leela was bleeding from her ear. She was rushed to MM Hospital in IC Colony, Borivli. According to the FIR, doctors said that she had severe head injuries and asked the family to move her to Karuna Hospital in Borivali. Around 1 pm, Leela succumbed to her injuries while being treated at Karuna Hospital.
Her son was grieving and registered a police complaint the next day, on Dec 30. In his statement, her son has said that the motorcyclist was drunk. MHB Colony Police have registered an FIR against an unknown person for rash driving and negligence. They are probing further.
