4 injured in clash on NYE in Ganjam

Berhampur: At least four persons were critically injured following a clash during New Year’s Eve celebrations at Gandapalli in Ganjam district.
Police said a group of youths from a village near Chhachina had gone to ORDP colony at Gandapalli to celebrate ‘zero night’, two others might have followed them. A clash occurred between them and the attackers stabbed one person.Three villagers of Gandapalli sustained injuries when the attackers stabbed them as they tried to stop them, police said. The attackers also allegedly fired at them. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained but police suspect previous enmity might have led to the clash.
The injured persons were first admitted to the community health centre (CHC) in Khallikote and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. Their condition is stated to be critical, the police said.
“We have detained a person for questioning,” said Satyabrata Bhutia, IIC of Rambha police station. He, however, said they did not find any bullet shells from the spot to confirm firing.
