Man convicted of rape, sentenced to 20-yr jail | Hyderabad News
Hyderabad: The special fast track court for Pocso cases, LB Nagar, on Tuesday sentenced a 28-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and awarded 5 lakh aid to the survivor in a minor rape case reported in Saroornagar in 2018.
According to police, the convict, a bike mechanic, trapped the girl, 17, in the name of love. After her family members got to know about it, they warned her to stay away from him, and she then confined herself to home.However, the convict managed to contact her and insisted that she leave home so that he could marry her.
In Nov 2018, the girl left her home, and the convict took her to Srisailam and married her there. They stayed there for around two weeks. Meanwhile, the girl’s father lodged a missing complaint at Saroornagar police station. The mechanic dropped her near their home and went absconding.
Based on her statement, the missing case was altered and a rape case and a case under Pocso Act were registered, and he was arrested. The court took up the trial, examined girl’s statement, medical reports, and other evidence, and pronounced him guilty of the crime.
