Ara: Bhojpur police on Tuesday claimed that it filed a chargesheet in the local Pocso court after completing investigation into the rape and murder of a minor girl by her neighbour, within 10 days. The case was registered against the 40-year-old man with the local police station on December 17, a day after he allegedly raped and murdered the 12-year-old Class V girl the previous night.
Bhojpur superintendent of police (SP) Raj had himself visited the spot on December 16.
According to the chargesheet, the girl, the daughter of a daily wager, was called by her 40-year-old neighbour to his house, when she had gone to a nearby grocery store. The accused first allegedly raped the girl in the basement of his house and then brutally murdered her by striking her head against a wall. The accused was later beaten up by the local residents and handed over to the police.
The local station house officer, Devraj Rai, said the chargesheet was filed in the local court by the police on December 27.
A press statement released from the Bhojpur SP’s office said the police will ensure strictest punishment as per the provisions of the law for the accused through a speedy trial.
