THANE: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde announced the proposed construction of a new metro line linking the high speed bullet railway station at Diva with the existing Thane city and railway station.
Shinde made the announcement Monday night whilst addressing a public gathering in Diva.
“Diva is a growing suburb and is poised to transform into a significant transportation hub.The suburb is acquiring a bullet railway station and necessitates connectivity with Thane station and the city. We are contemplating a metro line connecting the bullet station with Majiwada that will also interface with the Thane railway station,” Shinde stated.
Former Diva corporator and deputy mayor Ramakant Madavi said the project was currently in its nascent stage and a feasibility assessment would be undertaken shortly. A representative from Shinde’s team elaborated that the vital link between the bullet and Central Railway suburban train network could be established and implemented either by the Mahametro or the MMMRDA once the preliminary feasibility phases are completed.
“There is a pressing requirement to connect the bullet station with Thane city and the railway station. The proposed route could integrate the Thane-Bhiwandi and Kalyan-Taloja metro lines while also connecting the neighbouring suburbs of Mumbra, Kalwa suburbs,” he explained.
Shinde mentioned that alongside the metro connectivity, the state is working to improve and upgrade the infrastructure in the suburb, which is presently encumbered by notable volume of unauthorised constructions.
A cluster redevelopment scheme for the suburb will ease the situation and provide residents with legitimate homes. Concurrently, a substantial infrastructure overhaul is planned utilising Rs 1000 cr assistance from the state, Shinde said.
