Oppn corners BMC over worsening air quality | Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday criticised the BMC over pollution in the city and questioned whether builders and contractors are following BMC guidelines.
He urged the BMC to disclose penalties imposed on violators.
Mumbai Congress chief MP Varsha Gaikwad also criticised the BMC, stating that breathing in Mumbai has become a health hazard.
“Has BMC ever taken any action against polluting builders and contractors?,” Aaditya said.
“Last year, the BMC issued pollution guidelines for builders and contractors. Are these instructions being followed?” Aaditya said in a post on X.
“Mumbai is choking. We need concrete measures to combat this crisis, not band-aid solutions. Breathing in has become a health hazard, no longer a right. Since the first week of October, air quality was dangerously poor, with PM2.5 levels reaching four times the recommended limit… It is high time the govt and BMC treat this crisis as a public health emergency,” Gaikwad said in a post on X.
