Patna: In a crackdown on impersonation, 10 people were arrested for attempting to take the physical efficiency test (PET) on behalf of other candidates in the Bihar Police Constable recruitment drive. Four of the suspects were handed over to the police on Saturday while six others were sent to jail on Dec 27. The PET and document verification exercise is being carried out in the state capital since Dec 9 by the Central Selection Board (Constable Recruitment), officials said.
“To ensure an examination free from misconduct, candidates’ running, high jump and physical measurements (height, chest measurement, and weight) are being conducted through a computerised system. Biometric systems are being used to verify the candidates’ personal authenticity,” the official statement from the board said.
The board further revealed that 8,000 candidates were called for the PET in the third week, which concluded on Dec 28. However, only 6,375 candidates attended. During this period, a case was registered at Gardanibagh police station against 10 people for unauthorized entry and attempted impersonation.
In the written test, 107,079 candidates had been successful. The exam, held on multiple dates, was aimed at filling 21,391 vacancies for Bihar police constables. Approximately 1.78 million candidates had applied and about 1.2 million participated in the exam.
For the second phase of the recruitment process, which includes the PET and document verification, the successful candidates from the written test have been given the period from Dec 9, 2024 to March 10, 2025, to complete the process.
