Lightning Strikes: 3 killed, 5 hurt in lightning strikes in 3 places in state | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Three persons, including a minor girl, were killed and five others were injured in lightning strikes at three different places places on Friday.
A minor girl was killed and her father was critically injured when lightning struck them at a village under Mahuldiha police station limits in Mayurbhanj district.
Similarly, a person was killed and three others sustained injuries in a separate lightning incident at Kamakhyanagar area in Dhenkanal district.
Another such tragedy was reported from Khariar police station limits in Nuapada district where one person, identified as Tahasil Majh, died and one more was critical.
The IMD report said Titlagarh recorded highest 23 mm of rainfall during the day amid thunderstorm activities. Day temperature also saw a rising trend in some interior pockets. Nuapada recorded highest 43 degrees Celsius in the state.
IMD on Friday forecast that heatwave would prevail in some western Odisha districts again for the next four days from Saturday. Several coastal districts would also experience hot and humid conditions during during the period.
Besides, with the likely arrival of monsoon in another three-four days, rain or thunderstorm would also be expected in some districts during the period, the forecast said. Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist of the regional IMD centre, said wind patterns support both heatwave and hot and humid conditions in some pockets.
Dwivedi said conditions also continued to remain favourable for arrival of monsoon in parts of south Odisha during the next three-four days. However, he said rain or thunderstorm chances would continue at some places during the period.
