Cybercrime accused escapes from cop custody in court | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: A 20-year-old man from Jharkhand, arrested for cybercrime, escaped on Tuesday while being taken to be produced before the court of the judicial magistrate first class-rural in Uditnagar.
The accused, Raju Mahato, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sharing obscene photographs of a 20-year-old woman on social media. The victim, who had befriended Mahato, filed an FIR after finding the images online.
Police sources said three police officers were escorting Mahato from the police vehicle to the court when he managed to break free and fled the scene.
“Our search operation is on to apprehend the accused who ran away from the court,” said DSP Nirmal Mohapatra, zone-II, Rourkela.
Police are searching mainly bus stands, railway stations and other potential escape routes. Special teams have been deployed to track down the fugitive.
