Bullet misses target, fatally hits woman teacher in Samastipur | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: A horrific murder took place in the early hours of Tuesday in a Samastipur village when a land dispute spiralled into a violent attack on the family of one Naresh Sah. The assailants, armed and intent on settling scores, targeted Sah but missed their mark, triggering a chain of events that ended in tragedy. As the family scrambled for safety, a bullet meant for Sah’s son Avnish struck his wife, 24-year-old Manisha Kumari, teacher at a govt school, killing her on the spot.
According to police, the assailants, believed to be five to six in number, arrived at the residence of Sah and called out for him to open the gate. Sah, who had been asleep, opened the door but fled to the terrace upon seeing one of the intruders armed. “His wife Sunaina hid herself downstairs while the attackers proceeded to target Sah’s son, Avnish, and his daughter-in-law, Manisha,” a police officer said.
When Avnish and Manisha emerged from their room amidst the commotion, one of the criminals fired at the former. He managed to duck, but the bullet struck Manisha, who was standing behind him, fatally wounding her in the head. The teacher collapsed and the attackers fled immediately.
Sah told the police that the family had been embroiled in a land dispute and had already sought police intervention. “I had lodged a complaint against Mithilesh Sah on December 20, fearing for our safety. I never imagined it would lead to this,” Sah said.
Dalsinghsarai deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Vivek Kumar Sharma and station house officer Rakesh Kumar Ranjan were among the officers who rushed to the spot to initiate an investigation. “The forensic team has examined the site and we are collecting evidence to identify and arrest the assailants,” the DSP said.
