Five arrested in Vaishali for running online job racket | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Vaishali police on Sunday arrested five people, including a woman from West Bengal, for their involvement in cybercrime. The accused were operating a fake job racket, targeting people through a social media messaging app and online marketing platform.
According to the police, the accused posed themselves as job placement agents, promising lucrative employment opportunities to people. They then demanded registration and processing fees, and other charges, ultimately disappearing with the money.
Cyber deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Vaishali, Chandani Suman, said: “The cyber racket was discovered through the ‘Pratibimb portal’, a document scanning App, by the cyberpolice. It came to light that fraud in the name of job offers was committed through two numbers registered in Patna and West Champaran districts. Technical probe revealed that both numbers were active under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area police station in Vaishali district.”
The DSP said based on the information received and technical evidence, a team comprising cyberpolice and Industrial Area police, was formed under the direction of SP, Vaishali to investigate the matter. The probe team identified a spot in the Hajipur industrial area, based on the tower location of the numbers.
“A raid was conducted at the place. During the raid, four men and a woman living in a rented house, attempted to flee on seeing the police. During the questioning, they could not provide satisfactory answers. The police searched the place and recovered eight cellphones and 13 SIM cards from them. They admitted to duping people by offering fake job opportunities through social media messaging app. They would ask for certificates and other documents and collect money under the guise of registration charges, processing fees, courier charges, etc.,” said the DSP.
Additionally, they posted fake online job advertisements on a marketing platform to deceive people. Examination of the seized cellphones revealed their use in defrauding people. The cellphones had educational documents and payment screenshots of many people.
“The interrogation revealed that the gang was active in various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, targeting gullible people online. A case was registered under the IT Act at the cyberpolice station, and all the accused were arrested and sent to jail,” the DSP added.
