BHUBANESWAR: A day after rumours swelled about some private hospitals allegedly denying treatment under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) following the ouster of the BJD govt, the health department on Thursday clarified that the scheme remains active and asked empanelled hospitals to continue treatment for cardholders until the new govt takes further decision .
“This is to clarify that all BSKY beneficiaries will continue to avail themselves of cashless healthcare services. Hospitals have been sensitized to continue treatment of beneficiaries without any disruption. All claims raised by hospitals will be paid by the state health assurance society (SHAS) as before,” read an official statement issued by the health and family welfare department on Thursday.
Governor Ragubar Das had expressed concern after reports surfaced regarding the confusion over BSKY health cards following the declaration of election results and beneficiaries being deprived of health services. He asked chief secretary P K Jena to take appropriate steps so that there is no confusion regarding BSKY and that beneficiaries receive uninterrupted healthcare services.
Following the governor’s direction, the chief secretary issued a video message to the public. “BSKY is a government scheme, and it is operational. No empanelled hospital can deny treatment to any BSKY cardholder or stop their treatment prematurely. It will continue until the new government takes further decision on this scheme,” said Jena.
He said BSKY beneficiaries can call the helpline number of the health and family welfare department to air their grievances. “If any empanelled hospital neglects or creates problem for patients admitted under the BSKY scheme, action will be taken against the hospital,” Jena added.
Pvt hospitals ‘turn away’ BSKY beneficiaries, cite change of govt
A few private hospitals allegedly denied cashless treatment facilities to beneficiaries of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), citing a change in govt, sources said on Wednesday.
These private hospitals fear that the scheme may be discontinued and their dues may not be cleared due to the change in govt. Beneficiaries have alleged that this behaviour from healthcare institutions may negatively affect the treatment of patients.
“It is unfortunate that some private hospitals are allegedly denying treatment to BSKY card beneficiaries. Patients and diseases do not have any religion, caste or party. Providing healthcare to people is the priority of the govt. The change of govt is a continuous process. Hospitals should not stop providing the service by saying the govt has changed,” said BJP state president Manmohan Samal on Wednesday.
Samal said hospitals should avoid this mindset and continue to provide treatment to the people. “The administration should keep an eye on such rumours,” he added.
