Tanvi into maiden BWF World Tour final, Sathish bows out | Bhubaneswar News

15-year-old Tanvi Sharma made it to her maiden BWF World Tour final as she grabbed a spot in the summit clash of Odisha Masters after beating Shriyanshi Valishetty in the semifinals of women’s singles event at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack on Saturday.
Tanvi, who beat another youngster Anmol Kharb in the quarterfinals, had no trouble against Shriyanshi in the last-four stage and won 21-19, 21-19 in just 37 minutes. In the final she will be facing off against China’s Cai Yan Yan, who got the better of Japan’s Sorano Yoshikawa 21-17, 21-19 in the other semifinal.
It will be Tanvis’s second final of the year after she won the Bonn International 2024 and she will like nothing other than finishing the year with another title. However, it will be quite a challenge for the teenager since Cai won the Guwahati Masters earlier this month and has been on a roll here in Cuttack as well losing just one game so far.
However, in the men’s singles it was all over for defending champion Sathish Kumar Karunakaran as he went down fighting to Tharun Mannepalli in the semifinals. Tharun, who won the Kazakhstan International Challenge and St Denis Reunion Open earlier this year, came from behind to win 12-21, 21-19, 21-12 in 54 minutes and will take on compatriot Rithvik Sanjeevi Satish Kumar in the final.
21-year-old Rithvik, who lost only two games en route the final, beat eighth seed Thai player Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul 21-17, 21-14 in just 34 minutes in the other last-four clash.
While there will be three Indians in the singles category, sadly none of the teams from the hosts country could make it to the doubles events.
No. 2 seeds Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde narrowly lost to Singapore’s sixth seeds Hee Yong Kai Terry and Jin Yu Jia 14-21, 21-18, 19-21 in the mixed doubles semifinals. The winners will face off against Gao Jia Xuan and Tang Rui Zhi from China for the title.
Meanwhile, in women’s doubles, Gayatri Rawat and Mansa Rawat fell to Japan’s Nanako Hara and Riko Kiyose 17-21, 14-21 and fourth seeds Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam’s went down 7-21, 24-22, 17-21 to China’s Keng Shu Liang and Wang Ting Ge.
As for men’s doubles, the pair of Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek was handed a 21-16, 19-21, 20-22 defeat by Japan’s Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi in the semifinal. The Japanese duo will take on the Chinese pair of Huang Di and Liu Yang in the final.
