Madhepura: An 18-year-old biker, Md Tofique, lost his life, and pillion rider, Aftab (17), was critically injured when a speeding milk-laden pickup van hit their motorcycle on Tarabe Ghailadh Road near a roadside hotel under Gamhariya police station in Madhepura district on Saturday.
The victims were on ways to Adarsh College Ghailadh to submit an admission form of a relative when the tragic incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the van, hit the bike and fled from the spot. While Tofique died on the spot, Aftab was taken to a local primary health centre (PHC) before being referred to Madhepura hospital for advanced treatment.
The deceased, Md Tofique, was the son of Abdul Kudush from Thadhi ward no. 2 in Kishanpur police station area, while the injured, Aftab, is the son of Md Abbas from Chakla Nirmali under the same jurisdiction in Supaul district.
An investigation is underway to locate the driver and the vehicle involved in the accident, said officials.
