Saran Launches Anti-Filariasis Campaign to Test and Treat Disease | Patna News – Times of India

Chhapra: In an effort to eradicate filarial disease from the district, Saran launched a campaign for microfilarial test at two sites in each of the 20 blocks on Tuesday — one sentinel and the other random.
District vector-borne disease control officer Dr Dilip Kumar Singh said the selection of sites was based on the number of filarial patients in each area. “During this campaign, blood samples will be collected to test for microfilarial disease,” Dr Singh said, adding that the health department team would collect night blood samples from suspected patients aged 20 or older.
“In the night, parasites of microfilaria remain active which makes it easier to diagnose the disease for further treatment,” Dr Singh said. Sudhir Kumar, advisor to vector-borne diseases, added that at least 300 samples would be collected at each of the 20 sites to determine whether the people carry the parasite.
Ganpat Kumar, a representative of CFAR, said the district health department had formed teams to supervise the campaign and identify patients in need of proper treatment.
