Arrests Made in Bhagalpur Police Assault Linked to Illegal Sand Mining | Patna News – Times of India
Bhagalpur: Three people, including a woman, were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly attacking a police team when it had gone to Kola Khurd village in Jagdishpur police station area to nab those engaged in illegal sand mining on Monday.
The attackers had also escaped with the sand-laden tractor that was seized by the police.
The arrested persons are—Sumitra Devi (49), wife of Ramswaroop Yadav; Ravi Kumar Yadav (23), son of Mahesh Yadav; and Rau Kumar (24), son of Shanti Kapri—all residents of Kola Khurd under Jagdishpur PS.
Bhagalpur SSP Anand Kumar said the Jagdishpur police station team, led by the DSP (trainee)-cum-SHO Vishal Anand, had gone to arrest those involved in the illegal sand mining. The police team has also seized a sand-laden tractor.
The SSP said a group of nearly two dozen anti-social elements, mostly engaged in illegal mining, had attacked the police team and escaped with the seized sand-laden tractor.
Following the incident, an FIR was lodged against 11 named people besides many unidentified sand mafia members, the SSP said. While three people have been arrested, raids are on to nab others, he added.
He said raids against illegal sand mining would continue in the district.
