52-Year-Old Man Arrested for Raping Disabled Woman in Sundargarh |
Rourkela: A 52-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a disabled woman at her home in Sundargarh district on Dec 3.
The accused reportedly committed the crime when the 27-year-old woman was alone at her residence around 1 pm. The man, who is a friend of the woman’s father, fled the scene.
The matter came to light when her mother returned home and found her daughter in distress. The woman, who suffers from speech impairment, managed to communicate her ordeal to her mother, who immediately filed a police complaint.
“We have arrested the accused for raping the disabled woman. Further investigation is underway,” said R Sahu, inspector.
The woman underwent medical examination on Wednesday, while the accused was examined on Thursday following his arrest. The accused was formally arrested on Friday after interrogation.
The woman lives with her parents and three siblings.
