Arrest Made in Shocking Rape Case of Disabled Woman in Bhubaneswar | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old disabled woman was allegedly raped in her home in the city on Monday. Police arrested the accused, identified as Gaura Naik alias Bagha (45), on Tuesday.
Police sources said Naik, a daily labourer, was familiar with the survivor’s family. The crime occurred on Monday afternoon when the woman, who suffers from partial visual impairment and mobility issues, was alone at home. Her parents, who work in a shop, were away.
“On the pretext of meeting the woman’s father, Naik reached her house in the afternoon. He was aware that her parents were at their workplace. He locked the door from inside and sexually assaulted the disabled woman,” a police officer said.
She narrated her ordeal to her mother when she returned home in the evening. With the help of locals, her parents overpowered Naik, who was staying in a nearby area. After thrashing the accused, locals informed the police.
According to police, Naik belonged to Kandhamal district and worked at a construction site here.
“He recently came in contact with the woman’s parents and often visited her house. We will file a chargesheet against him in court soon and ensure a speedy trial and his conviction,” the police officer said.
