Rape: Deaf and Mute Girl Raped in Jajpur District | Bhubaneswar News
Kendrapada: A 19-year-old deaf and mute girl was allegedly raped by a man in a village in Jajpur district on Sunday.
The victim’s mother filed an FIR at the local police station on Sunday evening after her daughter revealed her ordeal through sign language. According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Tungura Mallick (26), allegedly raped the girl when she had gone to answer the call of nature in a field near their house.The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and started investigation.
The survivor was immediately taken to a local govt hospital for medical examination. “The accused fled from the village,” said Anshumala Das, inspector in-charge of the local police station.
Police have sought the assistance of sign language interpreters to ensure effective communication with the girl.
In 2019, the state govt empanelled sign language interpreters at police stations to assist individuals with hearing and speaking disabilities in recording their statements and filing FIRs.
