Heatstroke Death: One heatstroke death confirmed in Bargarh | Bhubaneswar News
Sambalpur: Post-mortem report has confirmed that Subal Behera (31), a homeless person, lost his life due to suspected heatstroke in Bargarh town on Thursday. Subal of Haatpada collapsed while working at the daily vegetable market and was rushed to a govt hospital by bystanders.
Subal’s siblings are living in other districts. He got to eat daily meals by assisting vegetable vendors in the market.His brother, Sudam Behera, said, “He was unmarried and staying alone. He didn’t have a steady source of income. I don’t know whether he had food or not.”
Bargarh district has reported six suspected heatstroke deaths, with Subal’s death being the only confirmed one so far. Two families have already cremated their loved ones, while postmortem reports for the remaining three are pending. Sub-collector Prajanandan Giri said, “Subal’s sister has been given Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross fund. A joint investigation by the tehsildar and police for providing the ex gratia of Rs 50,000 has been completed. The amount will be sanctioned soon.”
In neighbouring Sambalpur, five confirmed heatstroke deaths have been reported, including two individuals from Jharkhand.
