Major Delays in Jeypore Bypass Road Project Due to Land Acquisition Issues | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: Completion of the under-construction bypass road on NH-26 passing through Jeypore town has been delayed due to problems in land acquisition. The project, originally slated for completion by Nov 30, has achieved only 50% progress, sources said.
Officials attributed the delay to the inability of authorities concerned to provide requisite land for the project. “We received only 65% of the land required for the bypass, which hindered access to certain patches and slowed down the work,” said Rabindra Kumar Behera, superintending engineer, NH division, Jeypore.
National highways (NH) department is constructing the 4.91-km bypass road at an estimated cost of Rs 68 crore to alleviate traffic congestion on NH-26. The road begins near a hotel between Jeypore and Bariniput and will connect the highway at a railway overbridge near Umuri on the outskirts of Jeypore.
The proposed bypass, which will be 45-metre wide, will cover an area of 72.98 acres. It passes through Jeypore LR, Dubuli, Mokaput and Umuri villages in Jeypore block. Once completed, the road is expected to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion, a long-standing demand of local residents who face frequent traffic jams and accidents on NH-26.
Over 4,000 vehicles travel on NH-26 in Jeypore daily, highlighting the urgent need for the bypass. “Issues regarding private ownership of the required land are being resolved. Land acquisition process will be completed soon,” said Debendra Rout, district land acquisition officer, Koraput.
