Library inaugurated in police station premises in Maoist-infested area of Gaya

Gaya: Under community policing initiative, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashish Bharti inaugurated a ‘police library’ in Chhakarbandha police station premises under Sherghati sub-division on Thursday. The library, that will remain open during the day time, consists of books related to preparation of competitive examinations and it will be accessible to all students.
Speaking on the occasion, the SSP said: “Books for preparation of competition exams are available in the library. All the children, including those of Maoists’, can access the library.”
“Spreading education can transform the minds of children, who have seen family members getting involved in Maoist activities. Through the library we aim to motivate the young minds to excel in studies and get a job, so that they inspire others also,” he added.
Expressing happiness over the opening of the library in the police station campus, Aarti Kumar, an Intermediate student of Chhakarbandha, said: “The books will help me prepare for the competitive exams. I aspire to become a police officer and serve the people.”
Babita Kumar, a teacher at Chhakarbandha govt school, said the area is remotely located where cellphone towers are not available in all locations. “Online videos are of great help for the students these days, but in absence of stable internet connection, many are not able to access them. In such a situation, the newly inaugurated library would be of great help to the students of this area,” she said.
Five sewing machines and five bicycles were also distributed among the youth on this occasion. A kabaddi match and health camp for 300 villagers were organized in the Chhakarbandha police station premises.
The SSP also gave away prizes to meritorious students, who performed well at matriculation examinations.
