Orissa High Court Orders OPSC to Publish Revised Merit List for Dental Surgeons | Bhubaneswar News
Cuttack: Orissa high court on Monday directed the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to publish the revised merit list regarding the selection of candidates for the recruitment of dental surgeons on its official website.
OPSC issued an advertisement inviting applications for 198 dental surgeons in Group-A (junior) category of Odisha Medical Services (Dental) cadre posts on Mar 17, 2018.The written exam with objective-type questions was conducted on May 6, 2018. OPSC issued a merit list recommending the appointment of 171 candidates on Aug 9, 2018. The merit list was revised four years later on the orders of a single bench of the high court after an expert committee, constituted by the OPSC, found errors in 12 answers.
“We direct the OPSC to put the revised merit list on its website by tomorrow (Tuesday) indicating the circumstances in which the said merit list was prepared,” the two-judge bench of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh and Justice Savitri Ratho said.
The direction was issued after OPSC secretary Satyabrata Ray, who was present in court, admitted that the revised merit list prepared in 2022 has not yet been put up in the public domain. Ray admitted that the revised merit list was sent to the govt without any recommendation for recruitment.
Replying to the court’s queries, Ray also admitted that after the revision of the merit list, six candidates who scored more than the cut-off marks were not recommended, while 11 candidates with lower scores are serving as dental surgeons following their appointment in 2019.
Expressing dissatisfaction over this, the bench directed the matter to be listed on Thursday for further hearing. The OPSC secretary was also directed to be present in court.
