Tragic Death of Bihar ITI Student: Was it Suicide? | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: A second-year student of Govt Women’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Supaul was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the institution’s hostel on Tuesday, with police suspecting it to be suicide prima facie.
Punita Kumari (20) of 2023-25 batch did not come out of her room in the morning, despite repeated knocks on her door by fellow students. On receiving no response, they alerted the warden, who subsequently contacted the local police.
Upon receiving the information, a team led by the SHO of Sadar (Purnia) police station, Anirudh Kumar, arrived at the ITI and broke the door of the locked hostel room. A resident of Velasingarmoti village of Nirmali police station, Punita was found hanging in her room, according to police. They brought down the body hanging from a noose and sent it to sadar hospital for postmortem examination.
The SHO said prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. “Police, however, are probing the case from both murder and suicide angles, as no suicide note was recovered from the woman’s room. The forensic team was called to the crime scene, and the student’s mobile phone was seized.”
Her uncle Sahdev Mehta, who came to the sadar hospital, said that the family is completely unaware of why she took such an extreme step.
