Patna: Energy secretary-cum-CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Corporation Limited (BSPHCL), Pankaj Kumar Pal, on Tuesday visited the site of the Kajra solar project in Lakhisarai district. After an on-the-spot inspection of the site, he asked the executing agency, Larsen and Toubro (L&T), to complete the project ahead of its scheduled completion in December 2025.
Highlighting its importance, Pal said the project represents state’s commitment to sustainable energy under CM Nitish Kumar’s vision for promoting green energy. He directed the project teams to ensure the preservation of existing vegetation, making the initiative a true example of eco-friendly development.
“The 185 MW solar project, coupled with a 254 MWh battery energy storage system, is being executed by the L&T. Upon completion, the L&T will also manage its operations and maintenance for a decade,” a BSPHCL official told TOI on Tuesday.
“The Kajra solar project will be a key element in the state’s plans to harness renewable energy for sustainable energy solutions towards combating climate change and meeting demand growth,” the official said. “The battery energy storage system will store solar energy during low-demand periods and discharge it when demand peaks,” he added.
An agreement for this project was formalised in July 2024 under the leadership of the state’s energy minister, Bijendra Prasad Yadav. Earlier, on June 24 this year, L&T said it bagged a significant order to build a grid-connected solar plant along with a battery energy storage system at Kajra.
Once operational, the Kajra solar project will not only boost state’s energy capacity but also ensure reliable and cost-effective power during peak hours, with the help of its advanced energy storage facilities.
