MUMBAI: The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Salmanbhai Iqbalbhai Vohra, the 25th accused in the high-profile murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Vohra, a resident of Urban Park in Anand, Gujarat, was apprehended in Balapur, Akola, with assistance from the Local Crime Branch, Akola.
Another accused, Akash Deep Gill, was also arrested in Punjab’s Fazilka. Both suspects were produced before a holiday court and remanded to police custody. Investigating officer Arun Thorat of the Anti-Extortion Cell informed the court that Gill coordinated between handlers and shooters, while Vohra facilitated the financial transactions.
“We want to investigate the source of the money and identify who instructed these transfers,” Thorat told the court.
The case involves charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act (MPA).

Crucial role in funding

The investigation into Siddique’s murder, which occurred on October 12, revealed Vohra’s pivotal role in financing the conspiracy. Police alleged that Vohra’s Karnataka Bank account, opened in May 2024 in Gujarat, was used to transfer funds to several accused, including Nareshkumar Singh, brother of another arrested accused, Gurnail Singh. Other recipients included Rupesh Mohol and Harishkumar.
Authorities believe these financial transactions were instrumental in orchestrating the assassination. Heavy scrutiny continues as police delve deeper into the money trail and its origins.
