Devotees Flock to River Ganga for Holy Dip on Kartik Purnima in Patna | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Scores of devotees across the state congregated at the banks of river Ganga and confluence of various rivers for a holy dip on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on Friday. After the Ganga dip and rituals, devotees also thronged various temples.
In Patna district, the maximum crowd was witnessed at Triveni Ghat in Fatuha, which is considered pious because of the confluence of Ganga and Punpun, besides Mastana and Katiya ghats. Also Bhadra, Gandhi and Digha ghats among others were jam-packed from early morning till afternoon.
People started thronging the ghats from the early hours of the day. Take Alok Kumar, who along with his wife Komal and mother Sushila Devi, left his residence at 3am on Friday for Patna College Ghat. “We got up early today (Friday) so that we could have ‘Gangasnan’ before the crowd increases,” said Alok, adding it is his family ritual on Kartik Purnima.
Priest Satyendra Mishra said taking a holy dip on the occasion assumes significance because Kartik Purnima is also known as “Deo Deepawali” implying Diwali of the ‘Devta’ (god), which falls on a full moon, making it even more pious. “It is widely believed that taking a bath at the confluence of rivers like Triveni Ghat, where Ganga is north-bound, is even more auspicious and leads to fulfilment of all wishes,” said Mishra.
Meanwhile, the district administration had made elaborate security and traffic arrangements for the convenience of the devotees. The movement of vehicles on routes leading to the river banks was prohibited on the day.
